Golf del Sur was inagurated in 1987 with a professional golf tournament and since then it has been the scene of a number of international events.

Pepe Gancedo designed the layout which forms three loops and runs close to the sea in what was previosly a desolate desert landscape. The 27 holes of the club form a green oasis bordered by palm trees and giant cacti. Fairways are wide and greens large but the most characteristic feature of Golf del Sur are the large bunkers filled with black volcanic sands.
